Smooth and Striated:

African Landscape

Apostolia Vorgianiti’s first solo show at the Peggy Jay Gallery, presenting the artist’s latest paintings. In this series, Apostolia uses satellite imagery to explore overviews of the African landscape, the relationship between smooth and striated land, and the earth’s abstractions. Her approach is influenced by Edward Burtynsky’s photography, environmental and cultural concerns relevant to the representation of land, as well as her ongoing preoccupation and experimentation with diverse material.
