Following its launch Conceptual Concert with the renowned artist and President of the Royal Academy of Arts, Christopher Le Brun, in October 2015, MusicArt London | Conceptual Concerts continues to initiate new dialogues between Music and Art. This concert features pianist Annie Yim and book artist Pauline Rafal at the Burgh House and Hampstead Museum. The programme focuses on Robert Schumann’s Kinderszenen (Scenes from Childhood),Op. 15 and Fantasie, Op. 17, and the world premiere of a work by rising star British composer Charlotte Bray.
Written as gifts for her friends on the births of their children, Charlotte Bray’s lyrical and expressive piano pieces in Chapter One (2012) and Chapter Two (2015) resonate beautifully with Schumann’s Scenes from Childhood. This concert marks the world premiere of ‘Herbie’s Funfare’ in Chapter Two.
Book artist Pauline Rafal presents a ‘City of Books’ in her newly created book art installation, which explores the themes of childhood and love inspired by Robert Schumann’s piano works.
A limited edition of 50 hand-made book art musical albums will be available at the concert.
