Since the Victorian era, Hampstead has been a centre of artistic and creative talent. In particular, Hampstead has been a supportive home for many women artists, from the beginning of the twentieth century to now. This is perhaps in part due to its proximity to the Slade School of Art, which, from its inception, afforded women the same opportunities as men.
All of the women included in this exhibition lived at some time in Hampstead, and the majority of them studied at the Slade School of Art. Please browse the pictures below to find out more about these fascinating artists.
