North London with its hills and cleaner air gets more snow than Central London. These days it's rare to have enough snowfall for winter sports, but in the early 20th century it was more common. These skis belonged to a Hampstead resident, Dr. Maxwell Garnett and were used for downhill skiing on Hampstead Heath during the 1930s and 1940s. They were given to Hampstead Museum by Dr. Garnett's daughter, political campaigner Peggy Jay.
