New End Hospital Hampstead Training School for Nurses Cookery Certificate (1928)

Edna May Grant was born 1 September 1905 in Lincoln, the eldest of four children. Her father was a shipwright in the Royal Navy, based at Chatham, and the family moved to Gillingham in Kent in 1909/10. Edna May was educated at Richmond Road School, Gillingham. She completed her nursing training at New End Hospital in Hampstead on 1st February 1930. After qualifying, she remained at New End and became a ward sister. Edna May married on 9th January 1937 and left New End Hospital-the wedding present of a set of silver teaspoons from the staff at New End was one of her most treasured possessions. Edna later moved to Sevenoaks and worked part time at the hospital there in the 1950s. She died in 1987.
