To meet the spiralling costs of the First World War, people were encouraged to purchase war bonds and war savings certificates. Between 1917 and 1918, full-size tanks, known as 'Tank Banks', toured the country to raise money and support. This photograph depicts a Tank Day in Hampstead from 1918, with the Mayor of Hampstead, local actor Gerald du Maurier and others.
