Foxes at the Grange

Hampstead Heath was protected in the 19th century for the particular purpose of preserving an area of countryside in the growing city.  This has been a successful project, and the Heath remains a sanctuary for many types of wildlife.  These fox cubs were photographed in the 1960s, but fox families still live on the Heath today in large numbers, and there are estimated to be over 10,000 living across London today.
