Milein Cosman grew up in Düsseldorf and moved to Hampstead in 1939, where she studied drawing and printmaking at the Slade School of Art. While there, Cosman studied drawing under Randolph Schwabe and lithography under Harold Jones. After the Second World War, she began drawing for newspapers and magazines, specialising in figures from the world of music and dance. Cosman was also a prolific book illustrator and made a series of school programmes on drawing for ITV in the late 1950s. She was married to music critic Hans Keller, who died in 1985. Cosman lived on Belsize Park Gardens.
