George Charlton (1899 - 1979)

Born in 1899 in London, George Charlton was known as a landscape painter and an illustrator. He started studying at the Slade School of Art in 1914, and became an art teacher there in 1919. Charlton had his first one-man exhibiton at the Redfern Gallery in 1924. He married Daphne Charlton, a fellow painter and student at the school, and the pair moved to 40 New End Square in Hampstead in 1932.
