The Town Hall

Hampstead Town Hall was originally built as a vestry hall in 1878. However, after its establishment at the end of the nineteenth century, it became the headquarters for Hampstead Borough Council.

By the time this photograph was taken, the Town Hall was already too small for the Council's needs and so, in 1964, planning began for a large, new civic centre complex in Swiss Cottage which, among other things, would house the Council's offices – but the centre was never completed. Hampstead Town Hall is today home to the WAC Performing Arts and Media College.
